The cold water rescue course is a fast-paced, comprehensive training and educational program specifically designed for Public Safety and Rescue Professionals, including Law Enforcement, Fire, Rescue, EMS and Lifeguard Personnel. The focus of this one-day training program is on the prevention, recognition, and management of drowning and aquatic injuries, surface water rescue, and survival principles and procedures. It is designed to provide public safety and rescue professional with the knowledge and skills required to safely and effectively respond to rescue and recovery incidents in, on, and around cold water.
Format: 10-hour Instructor-led course

This course teaches the basic/latest techniques in auto extrication at four stations: car on the side, wheels up, stabilization and car on a Jersey barrier. Students will get hands-on experience in the use of hand and hydraulic tools in gaining access and extricating victims from a variety of situations. Instructors will offer their insight and experiences surrounding the extrication process. Additional experiences covered besides the use and care of hand and hydraulic tools include, but are not limited to, stabilization techniques; disentanglement; and patient access, extrication, and care.

The Basic confined space rescue training is designed to meet the training demands of 29 CFR 1910.146 (k) and NFPA 1670. 24 This intensive classroom and field instruction ensures that your facility's confined space rescue team will be proficient in the basic skills needed to safely and efficiently perform entry rescues in your workplace. Topics covered in the program include assessment of confined space hazards, atmospheric monitoring, confined space rescue equipment use and limitations, knots, vertical and horizontal hauling, lowering systems, personal protective equipment, and patient packaging.

AK-State Level The Emergency Trauma Technician training program teaches the basics of emergency medical care. The course has evolved considerably since it was first developed in Southeast Alaska for use in logging camps. Courses are taught by certified instructors and occur throughout the state. The ETT course can be modified to meet the particular needs of the students or community.

AK-State Level The EMT-3 program is designed to add basic cardiac care skills to those the EMT has learned already. Also included in the training program is the use of morphine, lidocaine, atropine, and epinephrine. The EMT-3 training program is at least 50 hours in length. A person must have ten patient contacts and ten venipunctures as an EMT-2 in order to enter an EMT-3 training program. As with the EMT-2, certification requires that the individual is under the sponsorship of a department approved physician medical director.

AK-State Level The EMT-2 class is at least 50 hours in length and prepares the student to initiate intravenous lines and administer fluids and certain medications. A person must have ten patient contacts as an EMT-1 in order to enter an EMT-2 training program. Certification as an EMT-2 also requires that the individual is under the sponsorship of a department approved physician medical director.

The Basic Wilderness Life Support (BWLS) module is a wilderness first responder course designed to provide an individual with an in-depth knowledge of wilderness medicine and basic skills to treat the most common injuries and illnesses encountered in the wilderness.

The National Registry Emergency Medical Technician provides basic life support such as splinting, hemorrhage control, oxygen therapy, suction, CPR and use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Clearly, most treatment procedures performed in any EMS System, regardless of level, are basic life support procedures. CPR certification is a prerequisite.

Format: 28-day Instructor-led Course.

This 28-day Wilderness EMT Intensive combines a standard NREMT curriculum and a wilderness module. Instruction includes classroom lectures, real-life scenarios, evening practical skills labs, and trips into the wilderness. WEMT training prepares students for a career in EMS, the military, law enforcement or expedition guiding. Following successful completion, students qualify for the National NREMT exam. CPR is included. Students must be 18+.
